Breeding coahwhips...

Conrad Nov 28, 2004 07:34 PM

I've got a pair of red western coachwhips that I've been contemplating breeding this year. Common sense says that they should hibernate and breed similar to other NA snakes, however I just wanted to swing it past some pros before taking my swing at it. Let me know if there is anything special to getting them to do their thing.

Thanks!

Conrad,

I'm hoping to breed coachwhips this year too. They would be almost like any other colubrid. Brumate for them about 3-4 months. Dont let the temp go below 40 or exceed 65. I would imagine feed them like pigs, coachwhips eat a lot and to get them in the mood, feed them female more than the male. But feed them both a lot! I am looking for all red westerns, so if something comes up and you need to move them out. I'll take them! William H.
