beardie separation problems.

Sinsational Nov 28, 2004 08:19 PM

i have two beardies, harley and karley. They've bred twice now and have lived happily together with no fighting/scuffles ever in a year. Harley is the male and he belongs to me, Karley is the female and belongs to a friend. I had to move out of state, and, I left my beardie with my friend until I can go get him. There have been a couple of times that the two were separated, and, during that time, we noticed that Karley would stop eating or throw up her food. My friend has a very nice beardie set up. She's got all the proper lighting, 80 gallon tank, and the female is very healthy and has produced healthy babies. The only problem is, every time karley gets separated from harley, she refuses to eat. It's bad enough that, if they are eating on the same counter/table or in the cage, whatever, and harley is removed from the scene, she immediately stops eating. Even if he's still within sight. If harley is not in the immediate proximity, eating with karley, karley won't eat. now...is this normal with mated pairs? Is there ANYTHING we can do to help cure her of this behavior? I really dearly miss my harley, but, neither one of us want to endanger karley's life because she can't be without her Harley. Please anyone help me. I've asked the same question in many other forums, all to no prevail, or answers.

Thank you,
Danielle

Any change can be stressful for a dragon. However, providing there is no health problems causing what you described, she will adapt to not having Harley around.
