-- no tongue flickering? --

wrathchld Nov 28, 2004 10:52 PM

Hey guys,
I just got my first snake. After doing some research and looking around I opted for a baby ball python. I got it today but there's something I've noticed which I'm wondering if it's normal. She rarely if at all, flickers her tongue, even when handled or if i get my hand right in front of her head. Other than that she seems fine, very lively, and will retract when I touch her head which I read should be the case with healthy pythons. I got the snake form a reputable reptile store in the area who actually sell to most pet sroes here. Should I be worried about this? I have friends who have snakes and theirs are always flickering.
Thanks!

louis

If it eats and poops regularly then I wouldn't worry to much but If you have any other problems other than that then I would start to be concerned.

I just got her yesterday and they told me at the reptile shop she ate on friday, so I still don't know for sure if she has any feeding problems. I might try feeding her next friday to see if she eats ok. I called the shop and they told me to take it back so they can look at it, but I can't do that until the weekend. If I see her trough the glass I can see movement under her mouth like she's trying to flicker her tongue out but, nothing comes out. I guess i'll see how she behaves till friday.
