Check out my new buddy. His name is Bicho. Question: he seems pretty young... can I fill the tank up more than six or seven inches and add some fish? I know they eat guppies and smaller fish, so I plan to put Tiger Barbs or something, as well as guppies and some snails. I guess my main question is, can I fill up the tank more than six or seven inches?
Please advise... Thanks.

I have my two RES (who are under 6 months old) in a 29 gallon that's filled up a little over half way. I wasn't sure about this either, but RES are really good swimmers and they seem to be fine. If you're worried they might get out of breath or tired of swimming, put a few things at the bottom of the tank that they can rest on.

In general, the more water, the better. As long as they have a basking spot and can't climb out of the tank, I would make it as deep as possible. RES love swimming and diving into the water. Also, more water means less cleaning, since it takes longer to get dirty.
