Little Navajo C. Nebrius * Has A Tale To Tell :0(

PHEve Nov 29, 2004 11:26 AM

Little Navajo was mauled by his own little mate Jemez.

She actually knawled his tail off about a month ago. At first I was seeing tiny nicks, in his tail. Thinking they were small and she was doing it by accident while chasing crickets.

I began to feed them seperately, to stop it. It did, and all was well. Then one morning I went in to turn lights on and saw blood, and saw Navajo had more than half of his tail chewed off.
He has about 3 inches of tail left.

Jemez his mate had blood all over her pretty little face.
I removed Navajo and cleaned him up and applied antibiotic to his tail. And moved him to a new tank.

Jemez the female, is a very sweet girl with me as far as a pet. But extremely aggressive for such a young collared towards others. I realized she could never be housed with anybody.
I usually only part with offspring, Not my pets. BUT.....
I made the decision to give her away.
My Son came and took her this weekend, for his brother in law, who lives with him, who will keep her as his only pet.

As far as my son, 2 years ago I gave him one of my males, Tonka, this weekend he told me Tonka looks very Lonely and just sits there. He asked if I had a female that may CHEER him up !

I gave him my pretty little Kashaya, Zuni & Hopis little girl hatched in Aug. I was terribly sad to see her leave, but know I can see her anytime And know, as a breeder, I will have more this spring. And would be making my old buddy Tonka a happy guy

PLUS * All eggs they may have will be carefully brought back to me to keep and incubate,

UPDATE * Tonka is now very active, like a new lizard, loves Kashaya, and they are always together. HAPPY ENDING
And Jemez the pretty tail biter is loved by her new owner also.

As far as little Navaho, he has grown and put on weight since getting away from Jemez, hes coloring up, pretty yellow. And his tail is shorter for dang sure, but is now healed !
And I love him, hes a sweetheart of a guy.

Hes a beautiful nebrius, and when hes grown I will think about getting him a more MELLOW lady!

** And Thats The End Of Navajo's Tale ** or should say TAIL !

oh i just love a happy ending! what an aggressive little girl. i have never seen any of my lizards be mean to each other, well accidently once when i put crickets in the cage and walter the first clamped down on ivan's foot. so will that part of his tail stay gone forever?

this to each other before. But I have heard of it.

And Will's male Nebrius chewed his adult females tail also.

Some collareds can just be more agressive than others. Out of 24 or so, she was my only one. Thats why I decided not to keep her. I did however continue to handle her and she remained gentle with people.

So I suppose every so often ya run into a canibalistic one. I certainly do not want to label the whole species, as they are NOT all like that.

I personally have just decided for now anyway, NOT to breed the C nebrius. And when I do, I will make sure I get one who has lived with others peacefully.

Aww... He's a strong little guy. Sorry you had to give the gal away. It's probably best for both.

Yikes! You seem to have somewhat bad luck with aggressive breeders. Like when Zuni tore into Hopi's arm. Well at least his poor little tail is healing. Maybe some of it will grow back? I dunno if collareds can regenerate their tails or not. = (

a little different, he (Zuni just has sex on his mind) He does not intentionally attack.) He just wants his way, and gets overly zealous.

The little female nebrius, Jemez, just ATTACKED for no reason, other than she was aggressive. She was only about 7 months old maybe. Can't even imagine what she would have been like as an adult. Also I'm thankful it was his tail and not his foot or leg !

So there is a difference Kristin, in my opinion between mating behavior and just plain Nasty behavior!

Hi, how are you LOL
