Novice Breeding Question

Visahari Nov 29, 2004 12:41 PM

My male and female BCI have been together for three months. Whenever i look into the enclosure the male is along the female with his tail coiled around her's. I have not wittnessed any copulation and therefore assume none has occured. I have not seen a noticable ovulation, or a POS. They get seperated every 7-14 days for the female to eat and the male being less interested in food eats every 2-3 weeks. On cool rainy nights i let the low pressure air sneak in through a cracked window as some people have recomended to me. What can i do to help expodite and ovulation in my female, as far as misting more/less, feeding? Or should i just let the male "do his thing?"

Here is a pic of my female approx. 6 months ago, she is heavier now.

Thankyou, Matt

My opinions..
I would not feed the female at all, unless she starts to look skinny in any way, same for the male.
I would not bother letting the low pressure air in, first I have never heard of an instance of low pressure helping to induce ovulation. Second, unless you have an airtight lock on your room the air pressure is the same inside as it is outside.
It just plain takes time, and like the song says, the waaa-aiting is the hardest part. It is my experience that a female will not ovulate with food in her system, not a fact, but my experience. Good luck. Craig

I do, however feed once a month during this time, probably more for my own sake. I can't believe how long them females can hold out. I have 2 females that are now on their 3rd month of courting.

Those meals that I feed them once a month, are only half of the normal size meal.

Yeah, I do feed mine on occasion, but I usually try to get them just shy of obese before I start, then if they have not ovulated by 2 mos or so I will feed them and warm them up temporarily. I have also noticed females that I have done this with are usually very receptive, and often I see ovulation within a couple weeks of reintroduction with a male. I think everyone does things a little different, when people hear how I do my cycling they usually tell me it is wrong, but the proof is in the pudding. Good luck this year and thanks for the input. Craig
