regurgitation in adult male gila...causes?

cousinmike Nov 29, 2004 12:47 PM

I have an adult pair of gilas I acquired on breeding loan. After feeding the male last week, I discovered he regurged the mice that I fed him,(four hoppers). Was this too much? What would be possible causes of regurging in Gilas? Too hot? Too much food? I am new to this species, although I've kept herps for over 25 years. They seem to be thriving, although it's amazing how lethargic they are. I've never met a lazier lizard in my life! Any help on this matter would be appreciated, as I tend to worry about all my charges, but these esp, because of their uniqueness and value.
Thanks,
Mike C

Definately, not to much food for an adult. The best thing you can do is separate the two animals. Wait two weeks then try feeding the animal in question a small meal, say one hopper, if all goes ok, try one hopper again, after that two. Then see how it goes.I hope this helps you out.If you have any other questions about Heloderma, give me a call (916)613-5387 or (916)524-1353 I would be glad to talk to you.

If the original post could provide the cage set up, temps on warm and cool side, how long have they been in your possession, and any other useful info would be helpful in making a recommendation. Definitely separate them and do fecal checks to rule out parasites.
