are mice and rats dead from heat usuable?

peteralbrian Jul 01, 2003 04:43 PM

in my country we have a heat wave and i am finding about 5 dead mice and rats a day. i'm sure that its because of heat stroke and not a desease. are they usable to feed? they are usually hard by the time i find them... if i freeze them will it get them softer like a normal killed frozen one?

First off, reassess your husbandry. If animals are dying of the heat, you need to take measures to ensure that stops, or else you will be guilty of cruelty to animals. This is crime, aside from the ethical implications. No animal, whether it's meant as a feeder or not, deserves to suffer.

Next, whether they are safe to feed depends on how long they've been dead. If it's an hour or so, they should be fine.
