I think my leo is constipated... (long)

duckofdomination Nov 29, 2004 04:53 PM

I got a new leo last sunday at a show (nov. 21) She poo'd on sunday and on monday and hasent gone since. She is also isnt eating very much (about 11 feeders sinse I got her). I gave her a 5 minute warm bath with belly rubs yesterday and no reaction. Is she constipated or am I just parinoid? Also if she is constipated should I take away her mealies untill she poo's?
Thanks!
~Sara

P.S. The feeders that she ate were 7 mealies and 4 crickets. This was her first time ever having crickets (her breeder only fed mealies). Also I know you guys usually ask for the tank info...as follows:
Tank size- 10 gallon all to herself
she has three hides (humid and 2 normal, One on warm and one on cool)
Her substrate is more than half paper towels and a little bit of tile.
She has constant access to meal worms, clean water and calcium powder.
Her tank temperatures are normal (93 on the warm side day, 84 warm side at night)

Also she has been spending almost all of her time in her humid hide (with peat moss)...If that could mean anything.

Thanks again!
~Sara

When I got one of my new leos, he didn't goto the bathroom for a week after I got him, so I don't know if thats anything to worry about yet. Someone previously on this board told me to massage their belly for bit, my leos seem to have no problem with me doing that. Also I was told to get a tupperware container, get some bounty sheets, run them under warm water, then put my leo inside of it, sort of like a bath, but he DID NOT like that. Other than that, I have read that mealworm sheels are high in chitin (sp?) which is their hard shell, which can be hard to digest, maybe just feed him crickets for a while, sorry for the long post

I've had mine go constipated the key thing i believe is giving them smaller prey items.

Anyhue baths will work, 5 minutes is a little too short, they will hate it but its for their own good. Mine ended up in there for up to 15 min and well did her business in the rubbermaid/bath... gross yes but hey i know she went

best of luck
