I have a Dumeril's female I bought from Bob Clark in March of this year. At first, I had trouble getting her to eat, but after getting some advice on this forum, I put her into a small rubbermaid type container with stayfresh type litter she could burrow in, and I put her in a quiet part of the house. That seemed to do the trick and she started eating and gaining weight.
After she had aclimated well, I moved her to a 29 gal aquarium with stayfresh bedding, a covered (thick sock) heat rock, and a half log propped on top of a rock. She seemed to love this setup and would pop her head out every night in what seemed a hunting pose. When I would drop a mouse in with her, she would nail it as soon as it got close enough. She would even move towards a mouse if it didn't come her way quickly enough. So, all in all, it seemed she was very well adjusted and liked the setup very much.
Then, about 2 weeks ago, I noticed her cruising around the cage and lifing up her head as high as she could, trying to find a way out. I cleaned the cage thoroughly, changed the beddding and checked that the heat source was working etc. All to no avail. She still seems unhappy, won't eat and every night cruises around the cage looking for a way out.
I don't think she is cold, since I have never seen her basking or resting on the warm end of the cage. She has shed several times without incident, has plenty of fresh water etc.
So, I have no idea what is making her unhappy. Anyone with more experience with Dumeril's than I have any suggestions?
