DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY SUITABLE LIZARDS WHICH ARE COMPATIBLE WITH A BABY WATER DRAGON?! PLEASE HELP!

greywolf1414 Nov 29, 2004 07:45 PM

My brither was thinking abotu getting me a bearded dragon for my birthday, the thing is, I have a small wtaer dragon, named Ryu, who's about six inches long with his tail, so his actual body is only about two inches. I wanted to get him a comapnion, but I don't know if an iguana, bearded dragon, or another type of lizard would survive without harming itself or my little Ryu and live peacefully. Its a plenty big cage for two young lizards thoguh. Anyone know if a bearded dragon is compatible with a waterdragon and if it could survive in the enviroment?

Grey wolf
my advise would be to get another water dragon about the same size IF your cage is big enough to house them both , Bearded gragons need totaly different conditions and grow a lot faster so that is definatly out .Most books and web pages say not to house two different spieces together.

Bearded dragons are desert lizards, they require low humidity and basking temps over 110 degrees. These are not at all compatable with a water dragon's requirements.

If you truelly have a huge cage, over 400 gallons, you could get a second dragon, or a basilisk.

Bearded dragons generally perfer things a little dryer then Waterdragons. A basilisk, forest chamelion, cone headed lizard, or day gecko would be better. I wouldn't recommend an iguana. the habitat would be fine, but it will quickly out grow the water dragon and become aggressive. Properly taken care of a baby green iguana can reach a size of five feet in less then two years. Keep in mind that if you add another lizard, you not only have to have double the space, but double the water locations double the feeding and basking areas as well.

As everyone has already said, Bearded Dragons have much different care requirements than water dragons. I wouldn't worry about getting a compainion for your CWD, lizards are fine living on their own and a CWD is a pretty big lizard that takes up a lot of time and space as they get older, you are gonna have your hands full!

Remember that one full grown CWD needs at least a 75gallon tank, so if you think about getting another one, you will need to at least double that size!
