Hope you decide to get one they certainly are Beautiful, active, friendly if handled, and just a nice lizard .

The temperature for a basking site should be about 100- 105 later in the day mine some times hits an acceptable 110 degrees.

The cooler side, or the rest of tank should be in the high 80's to 90 as collareds like it HOT!

I find them easy to take care of, as long as you keep the proper temps, feed them well, keep them clean and parsite free, for the most part, & handle so they stay friendly, you can have a thriving lizard.

I love them Any thing else ya want to know just holler someone will be glad to help!

Hope you stick around and join us, we love lizardy talk ! And Pics of lizards too ,

Pretty Collareds :)

you should really have one of each, hehehhehehe ! Thats My motto, if not one of each MANY of each

Uro's are VERY cool, mine are both super sweet.

But those little colorful Gems (collareds)have a pretty BIG personality !

i think you will really like collared lizards, but i think you would really like uros too. however i think you said you had a 30 gallon and if you are trying to fill that, get a collared or two because that tank is too small for a uro.
my first lizard was a collared and then last may i was deciding between beardies and uros. and then i found helga

I'm the bad luck charm of this forum... So the advice I give is from my experiences...

With the right enclosure, collareds will do well in captivity. If everything is not perfect, they will become ill. And yeah, like Eve said, collareds really like it hot hot HOT. lol. My main concern is this...

KEEP A GOOD UVB LIGHT ON THEM.

...Yeah. They're awfully nice lizards though.

Don't put things like that into your head. It is very negative and UN-TRUE ! And no one here thinks that!

It is a Learning experince, you took on , and did your best. You did Learn and will continue to learn as do the rest of us!

Now because of Novias sickness, and Tobias, you will improve your care skills, and can pass what you have learned on to the next guy.

WHICH you just DID, so it was not a negative experience you went through. Sad, but VERY postitive !

you are not a bad luck charm. we have all had bad things happen. do pass your experiences on, that is what the forum is for, but don't think badly of yourself. we have novia up there now looking out for us, the collared lizards patron saint of UVB, just like walter the first is the collarded lizard patron saint of protozoans infestations. (yeah i went to catholic school for eight years)

You gained at lot from your experience and can really help others here by talking about it. I certainly don't consider you a bad luck charm; I admire the heck out of you!!!
