I'm turning 21 tomorrow (tuesday the 30th.) I have no friends in this town...the're all back in pensacola (100 miles away)...so my mom and g'ma are gonna take me out to dinner..and I was wondering will it offend my mom if i tell her i dont want anything to drink? Because I just dont see myself drinking any alcohol with my extremly over-protective mom and my g'ma sitting there with me...foolish as it may seem.

Am I just being stupid, or i mean what would be a nice way of telling her no? Because I know if i just say no ill get 20 questions why not, ill end up just saying NO very sternly and itll piss her off....

any ideas? I warned you this was off topic...lol.

Do you not drink at all, or is it just that you don't want to drink with your mom? If it's the latter, what's the problem with maybe having just one drink? I can see where you wouldn't want to get totally wasted with you mom and gma, but if they're buying dinner, why not appease them and have a single beer? Better yet, get one of those frozen drinks that taste like a snow cone.

lol..thanks. well the thing is my mom is so overprotective ill take like one little sip and she'll go "you're drinking it too fast!!!!" or something. or "why do you want that? this is so much better!" lol. then my grandma will just be giving my mom dirty looks for letting me drink...oh god i love my family. lol. i mean i drink...i have...(and ill tell you the best beer ive ever had is a yuengling lol). I'm just trying how to figure out how to balance it out to make it all go smoothly. That's the fun part

If she asks why, just tell her you would prefer tea or a cola with your meal.
If she presses it beyond that just tell her that turning 21 is not a reason to drink it is more of a reason to begin that journey to adulthood and responsibility.

Why can't you just tell her exactly how you feel? Like what you told us in your question? By the way, don't feel bad about not drinking because a friend of mine turned 21 a while ago and could not get himself to buy any alcohol until a few months after his birthday! Happy birthday and good luck with the whole thing. ^_^

If you FEEL like a drink, order one. If you really don't feel like it, for whatever reason...Don't order one. At 21 YOU get to make that call. Don't drink (or NOT drink) based on somebody else's expectations...Do what's right for you. Enjoy your time with your family. 21...wow! That was 25 years ago for me.

Happy 21st Birthday bro. Go out and celebrate it however you want. IF not friends, atleast you have family with you. My 21st birthday was the first day of what was an eight month deployment spent out at sea, watching the American shoreline fade away, on that special day. Only in the Navy, LOL

When the waitress came to get our drinks i just said a coke and my mom goes "you can get a beer now if you want... you're 21..." and my g'ma just gave her a look and i said no, i'm going with coke... thanks...gave her a look like 'NO!!!" and that was that!

Thanks for everyones advice...and I guess I really should be glad that my mom was wanting to spend that time with me, as someone said...and I really wasnt realizing it. Thanks.
