VERY LONG----------Small Beardies should be larger....NEED HELP!?

lazandlouie Nov 29, 2004 10:53 PM

I recently got three bearded dragons from my cousin who says he can no longer care for them, well apparently after researching they were not receiveing proper heat (he had a good uvb bulb flourescent light) but no basking heat. He said he was feeding collard greens and other things similar to an iguana diet and medium crickets. He said they are six months but if I know a little they appear to be 2 months old (stunted growth?). Will they grow anymore is there anything I can do to get them going again. Sorry so long everyone and THANKS for the help!!

how long are they? Did you get the basking area set up? Sounds like you are doing your homework and that's the best place to start! When I rescued Cajun & Creole they were 7 months old and only 8" & 9" long weighing 40 & 50 grams. They are now 14" & 15" and weighing a ton. So they will have a chance to grow but may not reach full size. I would give them many small through out the day of all the crickets they will eat in 10 minutes and offer greens all day long. The crickets have to fit with in the space between their eyes for they to eat. Larger prey can be fatal to them. Be ready for a large cricket bill, my 15 week old eats about 25 crickets three times a day and some greens. Oh and I almost forgot you will need to give them vit/Cal dusting on their crickets. I do calcium everyday (only once) and vitamins 3-4 times a week.
Best of luck and keep us updated.
