Health problem with new ball python

dleeroach Nov 30, 2004 10:47 AM

I have a question for everyone. I just received this adult CB female ball python this morning along with another one. I noticed when I took them out that they both had some black on their lips that none of my other BPs have. Upon closer inspection, I noticed this swelling in one of their mouths. The earliest appointment I could get with a vet is tomorrow, so that's when we'll be going. Obviously, I'll also be contacting the seller to find out what's going on and to make sure he'll cover vet bills if something needs to be done. I was wondering though if anyone can tell me what this is. I have several other ball pythons and have for quite a while, and I've never seen anything like this. Please let me know if you have any thoughts. Thanks! -David

did you look for mouth rot??
it will look like a white substance, usually on the gums and/or the mouth interior.

it looks like it might be a mouth infection to me.

No, I haven't checked yet. I actually managed to find another vet that can see the snakes today, so I'm going to just let them look at it. It does look like some sort of infection to me as well. I've just never had any of my snakes get anything like this.

I was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for something like this to develop. Basically, I'm trying to figure out if this was going on when the guy I purchased these snakes from shipped them yesterday or if there is a possibility that this developed within the past 24 hours or so. Thanks again for the help -David

I just spoke with the seller of these ball pythons. He has already sent me the money for the vet visit tomorrow and has agreed to pay treatment costs as well if that winds up being necessary. I just thought I would update everyone that the seller is making good on the deal - very honest guy!
