My plan for Tobias... Dun dun dun!

shopunke Nov 30, 2004 03:17 PM

Okay! Just got back from a nice trip to Petsmart... I didn't have enough money to get him new substrate (I like repti-sand and apparently one of you said it was good) but I got him some other things:

-Rounded forceps
-Can o' crickets
-Can o' mini mealies

I'm going to stop the baby food. I figured this: If he gets used to having solid food on his stomach, he'll get used to chasing down his crix again. So just now I fed him two HUGE crickets, which he took very happily! I mean, these guys are big, dead but big. Tobias seemed soooo happy to eat them (via forceps- when it touched his tongue he MUNCHED! ) And as for the mini-mealies, they're so small that he slipped them down his throat like pasta. He is soooo full right now, it's hilarious, I'm so happy.

So, hopefully this will work!

those sound like nice little treats for him. it is a good sign that he really liked the taste of that cricket
i think a while back a couple of us were talking about the exoskeltons of the worms, saying sometimes they regergitate the shells or whatever. if that happens, cut back on the number of worms and don't freak out. i have had lizards do it before and they were healthy and fine!

I am so glad he is eating like that! His full tummy must make you feel wonderful! My 2 babies have eaten live mini-meal worms since they were very tiny. I had already bought 2500 when I read about them being hard to digest. Since Hermes and Cadence hadn't experienced any problems, I kept on feeding the worms to them. Never have had any problems, but, I do notice that their stools are a little softer after eating the mini-mealies than when they just eat crickets. And Hermes once ate so many mealies that there was actual liquid in his stool. They eat mostly crickets, but I see them going to the mealie bowl in-between feedings, or if I do not get their crickets in soon enough after they wake up.

Congrats on Tobias! I'm glad to see that he's doing better. How do you weigh them?

Is easy with a postal scale. I have one that allows me to switch back and forth bewteen ounces and grams. If you need one, you can probaby pick one up at Wal-Mart. Mine is a Sunbeam.
