Good basking light.

giantsfan24 Nov 30, 2004 05:29 PM

Right now, i have a red night light that i am using as a basking light along with a 5.0 uv bulb. Is there a better basking light(although its not juts for basking, its also being used to heat the entire screen cage as a gradient heat source since here in southern cali, its pretty cold ). Is there a better basking/heat light or is the red one i have alright? Thanks

You don't need to use a red light. A regular old light bulb will work just fine. I use a 100 watt also. If you chose the red bulb for night heating, remember two things: 1. chams are not color blind, and 2. they don't need heating at night. They should experience a 10-15 degree temp drop.

I'd switch to a regular white bulb, but no, you don't need anything special.

I use a Z00-MED basking bulb, it provides UVA light rays which help in the realistic colors of your chameleons enviorment helping in finding food, enhancing your chameleons color, and things of that nature. I am not a scientist, but I believe that a bulb that provides a wavelength of UVA ,is as important as a UVB bulb...
