Male Vield biting female instead of breeding

JacksonsChamKeep Nov 30, 2004 06:30 PM

The female is more interested in the male than he is in her. The female shows spots and retains her calm color. The male is only about 8 months old, but he is almost full grown and shows his colors and size to the female. He went after her and bit the top of her back, the female surrendered and was still, only the male did not even attempt to mount her or breed. Instead he just walked away. The female is ok and only has a slight bruise that is almost gone. (I am positive that they are male and female) I also a sure that the female is showing receptive breeding colors and spots. Is the male too young to breed? Will he eventually get the hang of it? Neither cham has ever been bred.
Thanks for your response,
Craig

Sometimes it takes longer than normal for the guy to be ready. In some cases, the male will never breed. Just is the same with females. Was he raised up in a colony or by himself? I always get a better breeding response if they were all separated at 2 months or less.
Hope this helps,
Cricket

Yes, the male was seperated from the others at a little over two months old. The strange thing is he acts interested until it comes down to finishing the job.

All I can tell you is to keep trying. He's inexperienced.
And good luck,
Cricket
