Problem with Sand Boas, please advise

rick millspaugh Nov 30, 2004 08:15 PM

I have three of seven Sand Boas with some “crustiness” around their mouth. Two of them are not feeding and one, a highly black spotted Paradox, feeds sporadically. I cleaned them up today and could not see anything obvious like mouth rot. I just noticed the Paradox blowing some “bubbles” out of his mouth. They have been kept in fine sand but I just put them in aspen shavings. The hot spot is kept at 100 deg; house temperature is 68 at night. The Paradox and a pos het female with the problem were in the same terrarium. The third boa with the problem (a Flame male) is in another cage with no contact to these other two. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or advice.

Blowing bubbles sounds like potentially a resp infection to me. (I have not dealt with RI in kenyans only bci) So I do not know the recommended method and suggested temps to adjust them to.. Good luck with them.

alot of people call it an ri but i feel it is just a cold ,keep the snake where he has to stay about 85 degrees if their real congested you can drip some listerine around the tongue,it take a couple weeks to clear up,i would seperate them, put in something that dont stick to the mouth and keep cleaning the container ,they wont eat until the congestion goes away.
