MOM an POP shops

davemaymon Nov 30, 2004 08:44 PM

Below u find a post that says " the days of mom and pop shops are over" i agree

but dont give that guy crying about petco killing him the credit of the label mom and mom shop.

alot of thoose real places worked 7 days a week open to close. did almost every thing thier selves and good answer your questions and enjoyed doing it. thier prices were a lil higher but they had to be. ive worked at one of them i see the expenses
and the profit the mark up are hugh yes but they have to be because its a low profit bussiness they work thier tale off to make a regular pay check when all is said and done and u see what u have left after all the factors are weighed.

those people got porked by petco not this guy! this guy is petco
only greedier. To the mom and pop shops who really were thanks for letting me wander around the store all day as a child when u knew i wasnt going to buy any thing. thanks for answering my questions putting a smile on my face and giving me your time
with out you people alot of us today wouldnt have the interest levels we have today in keeping pets from the hampster to the parrot, the guppy to the puppy I RESPECT WHAT YOU DID it wasnt a money bussiness back then IT IS NOW it was a love for what you do IT ISNT NOW!

I currently work in a "mom and pop" petstore that is rather successfull even with a petco and petsmart somewhat close by. I enjoy working there because your co-workers are more like ur family lol......there is like no turn over rate (ppl quitting and then more coming in). It is fairly low pace and enjoyable.

i am the one that posted the mom and pop shop statement. I work for a local mom and pop pet store that has been in business 65 years, yup, thats right, 65 years. We have a Petco, 2 PetSmarts, and a Pet Extreme in our city, and we are still doing great.

we have a little higher prices, but you are right, my co-workers are my good friends, a lot of us are in the hobby together too, people come to mom and pop shops for friendly service and a knowledable staff which we provide.

its sad to see a lot of the old shops get pummelled by chain stores, but we are doing just fine, in fact, around here, most people wont shop anywhere else, and we like that

Mr. Dave,
I think you would find it amusing that my very girlfriend is the manager of a mom & Pop shop. And that it far out sells both a PetsMart & a Petco less than a mile away. Why you ask? Because of the very principle I am preaching. It's all about the personal touch and the good feeling that you aren't some faceless uncaring hummer driving comb over wearing smuks next yacht. I am not greedier than PetCo, you don't even know what my prices are. You know what someone is for ASSuming dont you? Anyway, you can bet your life there in it for the money. But just like myself there in it to help make life easier and enjoy the experience along the way. Your so critical of people Dave I wish you'd at least respond logically before you become intolerable. Oh and by the way if I did have my own store I would gladly let children walk around (maybe not you) but most children yes and with no inttention of buying a damn thing. I was the same way Dave I did the same things. Geeez
