In was at the pet shop today to get some Reptomin and I saw some freeze dried krill. I was just wondering if anyone ever fed this to a turtle and if turtles will eat it. Thanks.

My turtle adores Zoo Med`s dried krill (called Turtle Treat). But, it`s extremely high in protein (66%) and fat (16%) so I give it to him very occasionally and only a small amount when I do.
Thanks for the info. Someone said that krill would be too high in salt unless I let it soak. Do you know much about the salt amount?
You`re welcome. I`ve never really thought about it, and I don`t particularly want to taste it, but since the container says it`s "whole ocean krill," I`m assuming there`s salt in it. The pieces are so small, though, I don`t know how they could be soaked, unless they were put in water and then netted out and put in his feeding pan. I don`t give it to him that often, though, (I gave it to him more frequently when he was smaller and before I knew better.) that I`m hoping once in a great while won`t hurt. You`re right about salt not being good for them--they can`t excrete it as easily as humans can (turtles don`t sweat). My turtle loves the soft bones that come in salmon packed in water, and I occasionally feed him some for added calcium. I try to get as much of the salt out as possible by cleaning them well before hand, rinsing them well, and keeping them soaking in water until I feed them to him. I have tasted them and can`t taste any salt.
I can soak it easily because the krill I'm talking about is whole and not processed into tiny bits. Feeding krill is not harmful unless you over do it. I wouldn't do it more than 2 maybe 3 times a week with small portions. I'm maily going to feed it to my softshells.
2 - 3 times a week is how often it says to give it on the container, but I give it only about once a week, so for me I don`t think soaking is necessary.
did you know they have zoomed shrimp treats...
Yes, I do. But I use the shrimp sold by Tetra.
