Hello,
Mine are still too young to breed, but they should be ready in a year or two. I don't plan on brumating them, though. Take a look at the included link... the average temperatures in Costa Rica only vary by a degree or two from month to month. This is just my amateur opinion, but I think that brumation is unnatural and unnecessary for a black milk. Altering the photoperiod is another option that I've considered, but that close to the equator, the lengths of days don't change much either. (I wish it were like that in Maine... it gets dark at 4PM, four hours earlier than in the summer!) The difference in rainfall from season to season is quite dramatic, but I don't know if anyone has ever tried increasing humidity to stimulate breeding. It might be worth a try, possibly in conjunction with increasing the photoperiod in the spring.

I agree with Nate.

I have several of these wonderful snakes and have never had to cool them. I would not attempt to cool a tropical like the Black Milk. Room temps and photo light seem to work just fine.

Good luck…

I have an adult trio and asked the Barkers about cooling them. They told me they never cooled theirs. They just put them together here and there and the females would have several clutches a year that way.

I figure they certainly know what they are talking about.
