I just use newspaper...it's cheap, plentiful, easy to clean up, gives the snakes something to read when they get bored...

Best substrate for the animal is newspaper -- simple, clean, cheap, delivered, sanitary, and as mentioned earlier...informative.

How about if some one doesn't want to use news paper?
Out of aspen or Cypress which one is better to use? What are most people using?

Thanks for your time and help

I personally like aspen over cypress!

I use Repti-bark - I've found that it helps with heat distribution, humidity as well as giving the snake an extra rough surface to use for shedding.

ugg repti-bark. Can't stand the stuff personally. I once had a leusistic rat on repti-bark and that red/brown dusty stuff got all inbetween its scales and almost "stained" him. I know Balls aren't white but you know.... Repti-bark is relatively expensive compared to all the other stuff also and has been known to carry unwanted guests with it more than the other options. Just better options out there IMO.

I've heard other nightmare stories from people who've used it. I've personally never had a problem, I wash it well before I put it in the cage and it works well for me. To each his own I guess. I have a large cage and newspaper just wouldn't work for me to keep the climate right barks do.
