Or look at what I didnt get for Petco?? " and they focused so hard on the problem they forgot what they were doing"
where did you get it from? i like the almost cream flame and how it's outlined in orange.
Thanks! this is another one from ACreptiles. The orange goes red when we are excited and at only 4+ months old!
i can't wait till the 3 i got from him are 6-8 months old!! they're already crazy as it is.
Since I read everyone's statements about petco and similar stores I had to check it out myself to see how the cresteds at my local one were. I was surprised to see one nearly identical in good health at the one around my corner. The only difference being that the orange on your animals was more red but not as reactive when excited. I must say that they have a much better supplier than ever before.
Keep in mind I don't own cresteds anymore, I work with chondro's and Uroplatus geckos.
I'd still buy from a private vendor anyday.

Boy

Quite a battle royal over this one.
Im certainly more of a Newbie than Pro at this... although I do have a producing colony Im proud of .And they live in the best acomidations I can provide.
As a newbie thats put in alot of time over the last 9-10 months I do have a few thoughts.
I bought 2 cresties from Anthony .. He has provided answers both public and private not only about the ones Ive bought ,but others Ive bought .I cant get that from Petco. His colors and patterns always make me jealous and ready to sell the house. He gets a good dollar.. but he has done his homework , and earns it. Plus gives back to the crestie comunity through his time here and his website offering more free info and insight than most books provide.
I bought 2 cresteds from R and B Geckos .,He gave me a deal that made petco look expensive. Randy took the time to show me his entire breeding set up and I learned more in 30 minutes than I did in three months of reading .He has always answered every question without laughing at the dumb ones. I cant say enough good about R and B Geckos
I bought 2 cresteds from Sticky feet , One was a adult female at a very fair price. Shes a pastel Yellow (my favorite color gecko)who has provided me with 12 eggs to date (trying to get her to cool down now) Both of thier adult geckos were in excelent health showing nothing but the utmost care for these animals. A excellent breeder in every way
I bought 2 cresteds from the Petco in my area . I couldnt resist them .Their colors and markings were very unusual and probally worth a lot more than the 55.95 price tag . A deal finacially ...I wouldnt have learned much if I followed thier example. However the tank was set at 86 degrees , their hiding places removed forcing them to be exposed under bright lights , the humidty was pretty much zilch.Ild try to say I saved them...but in cases like this increasing a stores profit margin means they buy more. When I got one home I realized its tail was infected .Petco didnt have a answer for me.Anthony did ... and today its doing great.
I dont begrudge a breeder any profit margin he can make on his animals .Unusual or quality animals will bring more money. Wether its worth it or not is in the eye of the beholder.Truth is a plain buckskin crestie can have all the same fun and interest as the fanciest crestie. But a collector still will pay for something a little special .
Im equally glad not all Petco's are like mine ..but if they arent its because of employees with individual drive to take care of and protect their anaimals . They should be aplauded and hopefully those examples will pave the way to less cruel keeping and better methods for the chain stores.
In the end thers something here for all of us ... what a nutty thing to fight over. Is there anyone who is for not taking care of their animals? Or who supports cheap unhealthy animals?
Let those who want fancier animals buy from breeders and let those hoping for the occasional deal to enjoy that too.The numbers are too small to affect the inevitable outcome of a lower priced market. In the meantime we can all complain about mistreated animals in any store or home.
No matter where you get your gecko its your pet. Just enjoy it and take good care of it. It will give you years of enjoyment no matter what the price or color it was when you got it.

The above 2 posts are exactly why I have purchased most of mine from Sandfire, Sticky Feet, Dragons Den, Anthony Caponetto and now, Randy S. of RandB! I don't mind what a good breeder charges for good animals because if I require additional info, they will be there.

It must be nice to have that kind of money...
Have all of you that support breeders 100% and buy from them considered that some of us continue to buy from large pet store chains because we cannot afford to pay $100 (not including shipping) for the geckos that breeders sell? It's that simple! I'd love nothing more than to buy from Anthony Caponetto, but the truth is, I'm a college student on a budget.
Personally, I think it's rediculous that you have to buy from breeders in order to ask them a question! I e-mailed Allen Repashy over a month ago and asked a simple question and have yet to receive a response. I understand that breeders are very busy tending to their reptiles, traveling to reptile shows, etc. but I guarantee you that if I were interested in buying one of his $350 geckos that he'd be quick to respond. I'm not saying all breeders are this way, but by the way you guys say, "I buy from (this breeder) because I can get my questions answered," it sure does sound that way.
You guys are right, you can't get answers from PetCo, but I've had trouble getting answers from breeders, as well. The answers I get are from you guys and friends that I've made on forums. So, I thank all of you!

When you support people or companies that are not capable or willing to properly care for the animals they sell and provide the people who buy them with instructions for their care that describe abuse. Do you really think think it is a good deal? I guess you have to have priorities.
let's all be patriotic and buy american made cars. even though they have 90% more problems than foreign cars and won't last as long. ( i'm speaking in general, i know there are good models out there, but not the majority of them) oh yeah, 75% of "foreign" cars are manufactured in the united states by the way.
Using foreign designed schematics and the same type of machinery to assemble the vehicle as they use in their native countries because importing that many cars on such a large scale is not finacially advantageous.
Ford is petco
Honda is most mom and pop shops
BMW is ACReptiles
Bentley is Pangea reptiles.
lol. I hope everyone gets a good laugh here.
BTW, I used prices on people websites to make those statements.
cheers,
boy
i definately agree
