Temp high enough?

lucky8926 Dec 01, 2004 12:05 PM

I fed my BP monday and he hung out in his hot side hide for a while then went to his cool side hide and as far as I can tell he has been there ever since. I checked his body temp with my temp gun and it said he was 83. Is that warm enough for him to digest his food? I don't want it to rot in his stomach.

Snakes are smart enough to take care of themselves if giving proper enviornment. If you have a nice temp gradient of 95 hot to low 80's cool side then your snake will warm up if need be or stay on the cool side if it wants. All you need to do is provide the proper enviornment and your snake will take care of the rest!

Thanks Jason! I've been wondering if his hot side hide is too high since he spends most of his time in his cool side. I try to keep it at about 93 inside the hide.

93 is fine. If you don't have a hide spot on your hot side then that might be a reason also that he isn't on that side. Make sure you have a hide spot on both ends of the cage! Other than that, it sounds like everything is fine!

Sorry, just read your post a little closer, you do have a hide on your hot side! Everything should be ok then! Haha I should read a little closer!

I guess he just likes it better on the cool side! The hides aren't the same either. The cool side hide is a little smaller and has a dome shape to it so maybe he feels more secure in it. (it came in a hair dryer box used as a cushion) i'm going to get some clay pot bottoms and make both of them the same.
