Temps during the winter

gurnham4 Dec 01, 2004 01:01 PM

last night when I went to bed, the city was having a pretty bad windstorm. I live in a house that is over 100 years old, and well you can image how insulated (or lack there of) the windows are. I checked my leo temps and the coolest area was reading about 74 degrees. Now i have an upper level on my tank that gets VERY warm and i really didn't check to see if my leos were at the top or bottom of the cage... but considering it was only 60 last night (and my room probably cooled down so much b/c of the wind leaking into my room) and my cage temps were that low. So first i want to ask if that low is ok in the winter? I'm going to get some towles and shove them into the small cracks in my windows (even though i have already used insulation tape in the cracks) and that should make my room temp stable. But if the temps are too low then i might have to move my leos to a room where the windows aren't 100 years old...

so what's the verdict

I have a 10-20 gallon sized zoomed UTH. Problem is my tank is an older unit and has a slate bottom (which absorbs alot of the heat.

To give my geckos a warm place to lay should i take off some of my tile pieces and let them lay on the slate? is there another option I can consider (something i can put under the tile without risking my leo's safety. I have a ceramic heater and either a red light for night and a grow bulb for day (50w) and during the day my temps read 86... unfortunately i can;t read the surface of the tile (asking for a tempgun for christmas) but does it sound like i need to change anything? i mean they do have those warmer spots on the 2nd level of the cage but what if that areas is too warm (even though they have 3 hides to lay in to be alittle cooler)
