odd pale hypo pyro

rtdunham Dec 01, 2004 02:34 PM

Here's one of the unusual pale hypo pyros i produced last summer. There's one that's lighter than this one. At the time, people wondered if they'd turn red quickly, perhaps even by their first shed. They're five months old now and no redder than when they hatched. If anyone else has produced something like this please post pix and tell me more, i'd like to figure out what they are. Some "regular" hypos were also produced--lighter than a normal in the "black" rings but unlike these, unaltered in the "red" rings.

There is a tendency for some of the hotter local or lower elevation pyros to get very washed out orange bands. You can see a lot of these on the southwest side or the Santa Ritas. The snake in the photo looks like the tendency for hypomelanism washed out the orange just a little more.
