anyone found any annulata lately?

jv4man1 Jul 01, 2003 07:03 PM

Anyone find any milks in South Texas lately? I found my first one (female) on April 12th and my latest (male) on June 12th. Are they found in July very often. I've also seen 3 DOR's this year. This is the best season I've seen for herping in south Texas in a while. Pic is of my Juno rd. alterna I found this year which I'm so happy about.

Supposedly September is better than August or July.
The general thinking for annulata (from what I have heard) is to hunt April and September. I have to say my experience confirms this pattern as well.
Of course, they aren't rare snakes and can probably be found 11 months of the year in the right areas of SoTex.

Compared to alterna, they are easy to find. Compared to TX rats, they are extremely rare.

I've been about 40-50 nights south and found two live annulata. Been about 15-20 nights out west and found 2 lived alterna plus one that was just hit, still alive. My chances seem better with alterna. Maybe I've been a little lucky with the alterna but annulata are far from common. Happy herpin'!

This is the first year I've really looked much for annulatta. I found this AOR in April and a pretty crisp DOR about 2 weeks ago....Just rained quite-a-bit around here around Del Rio/Uvalde area, may be good hunting over the next week or so..JP
