A quick announcement

crocdoc2 Dec 01, 2004 04:15 PM

Due to the recent turn of events on this forum, I'll not be posting here any more.

It seems some people are able to get away with posts that contain little more than comments of a personal nature (for example, try to find the actual information on monitors, in amongst the vitriol, in this undeleted post: http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=644991,646468), whereas threads which contained no vitriol, but were in contradiction to that particular individual's ideas, were mysteriously deleted.

There are two ways to hold a discussion: attack the other person with comments on their supposed lack of experience (according to the attacker, that is), or discuss the subject matter at hand with logical statements. Personally, I prefer the latter. This clearly isn't the place for it though.

Fortunately, there are other forums.

Cheers, all.

I could do without the personal attacks, but I have found the debates fascinating and mind opening.

I have learned more about monitors in the last few months than I had learned after chasing them around the globe for almost 3 decades.

I have been on this forum since it started a long time ago. I have seen attacks and attackers come and go. The forums can be a wealth of information. Unfortunately, the personal attacks reduce the worth of this forum immensely. Also unfortunate is the impunity that some participants seem to have in personally attacking anyone and everyone with whom they disagree while providing absolutely no value in those same posts. I do not understand why certain participants are given a free pass to personally attack others, and really only the Moderators know why. They are not likely to explain their reasoning, so we must either accept it or leave. Of course, it is their forum and they are free to do with it and police it as they choose.

Sadly, this forum has lost a great many wonderful people as a result of the personal, unnecessary, and unmoderated attacks on others by a select few.

Sadly Bloodbat, We have seen all this before...if you disagree with certain personalities, your posts are deleted, and often you are not allowed to post here either again. It is a one-way street here, so communication is not entirely possible.

How many people have been 'chased off' from this forum due to the afore-mentioned personalities and choose to no longer partake here? Sprackland, Horn, Eidenmuller, DeLisle, Vincent, Irwin, Bennett (he is banned), and many many other fine Varanus people..and now DK too...with each loss, one person remains to do what he does, 'say "Lets keep it about monitors", but also insults people as well on a continual basis.' Is it better to Rule in Hell and serve in Heaven? I don't know, but you can find me on the other forum from here-on as well...some of you say, "Good", "Great", and I say the same to you....Life is too short for this nonsense bantering seen here routinely... and goes nowhere constructive, and is more destructive....

When the moderators ask us to play within the rules, we should do what they ask. Its their forum. If you would take the time to notice, If I start breaking the rules(all of us have) and I sense or see the vultures(moderators) circling. I, out of respect for them and their rules, return to the rules and try my hardest to stay there.

This is not my forum or my rules. Its only my task to play within them. Or at least close.

In law, or business, all companies push the limits of their constraints. That is why their are courts. The ability to do this, is often the difference between success and failure in business. Its their job to stay within the laws intentions, not within the written law. Its a gamble They all take. A simple example is, the speed limit, almost everyone has a set cushion they travel above the speed limit. But if they see cops issuing tickets, they return to under the legal limit. (the smart ones)

Please understand, they have deleted as many of my posts as anyone elses. But I do not complain, its their forum and my task to learn to survive within their forum. That sir, is real life, not text.

You would do better to stay within the rules and use the forum as it was intented, to discuss monitors and not rant about your conceptions in human behavior. Example, Daniel is not banned, he got himself banned for accidentally breaking the rules, but he made amends. Ask him? Again, you should research before saying what you say.

I do understand why you fall back on name calling and game playing, its simple to understand. You get your information from text, and new text is few and far between. I get mine from the animals and even thought they are slow, I recieve new information on a daily, weekly, monthly, basis. Also, I only report what I see the monitors doing(however badly I may do that) which I believe, in the long run will always superceed, written text(another interpitation) of what animals do. You see, the more information is interpided, the more it loses value and is effected by the interpitation. I try to take it from the horses mouth then to here, as fast as possible, before it spoils.

It has always been my contention, that this forum is about keeping monitors in captivity, and from the recent fallout of deletetions, I think KS is telling us that.

Consider, KS, has heard all the excuses, they have hundreds of forums and all are full of people, like us. So playing within the rules and stopping the name calling(which your above post insinuates again) is our best option to make this a good forum.

Also, not judging people for how they want to keep their monitors. I do not agree with lap monitors, so I do not respond to those posts.

To understand debates on the forum, is simple, there will never be a winner or loser, debates only offer information to the readers. This information will either be used or not used. Some think they should win a debate. I think I use them to express my view. The winner is in the future. Some think, these debates are to entertain, that is also true. I think, they are like many things, more then all of the above. Thank you and stay within the rules. FR

Personally I think this forum is moderated way too much by the moderators. In my opinion moderation leads to moderation, moderators should stop deleting all posts.

"Moderation leads to moderation"

That was a good one!

I have really enjoyed your reasonable, level-headed and logical posts. Don't let the actions of a few chase you away, many of us value your contributions Forums need more people like you, not less- don't let one persons bad attitude get ya' down, there will always be people like that around and by leaving you grant them their wish....stay!
