Proper way to scent rats?

Neumann Dec 01, 2004 05:38 PM

Greetings,

I have a CB royal that I've owned for 3 months. He's about 18-20 inches long (5-6 months old) and is eating 2 small F/T mice from tongs per week (never a refusal). I just ordered a supply of mice, and rat pups, for our critters from Rodent Pro so, now that I have some rats, I thought I'd switch him over to rat pups.

Any general tips on switching? Should I try scenting with a mouse right away or just give him a rat pup and see what happens? Also, what's the proper way to scent a rat? I thought I would thaw out the rat pup and mouse in the same water.

Thanks.

Some of mine prefer rats to mice.

JFYI..They grow very well on mice also (just as well actually).

I switched my two ball pythons over to rats last week, didnt do anything just offerd the same way I offerd the mice. I think they went for the rats a little faster than they did for the mice, maybe the scent of the rat Idont know, but swithcing mine over wasnt a problem at all. good luck.

I have never had to scent a rat for a ball before. Chances are he will take it. Mabey go about 3-4 days longer before feeding to make his feeding response a little stronger....
