Shion Dec 01, 2004 09:39 PM

Did I read on here that Silkworms are the healthiest food for a Chameleon? Or was it Wax worms? Does anyone know?

ive never tried them but ive heard they are very heathly and easy to digest. ive also heard that most chams tire of them as a staple. wax worms are very unhealthy. they are very high in fat and should be fed as treats and while trying to fatten up you chams .

silkwroms are the most healthy feeders along with hornworms. most chams wont take silkworms as a staple. I think its because they dont move much and dont have aany challenge in catching. hornworms are good btu i dont know if those will be taken as a staple either.

I, too have found silkies exciting for a short period. Luna tires of them quickly - right now I have a dozen big fat fella's and she wants no part of them!

Don't bother with mealworms. They don't move much, have minimal nutritional value and a tougher exoskeleton. Superworms are a good feeder. I let one climb on the screen and she will usually go for it.

As mentioned, waxworms are a treat only. I like to use them after Luna has laid a clutch to get her back up to weight quickly. Along with silkies to replenish calcium loss.
