Difference of Temps. i.e. Basking temp vs. ambient temps...

xitch45 Dec 01, 2004 10:01 PM

Ok, I will have finally beat this dead horse enough after this post! As you can read below, i have a few reptiles, all quite healthy. Side note-Puff is having a little diarrhea, but fecal today showed only tiny amounts of coccidia, stress i assume is culprit. "Basking temps should be 95-115º" (temp depending on who you ask) is this ambient or spot temp?? I point and click my new tempgun on Puff's branch, and it says 130ºF (average). Is this 15º too much, or is "105º" my ideal basking-side ambient, which right now is about 85-90º (15 too low).

Simply: 105ºF should be basking temperature as in: spot--pointing at the site of basking with a temp gun; or is it ambient--make my ZooMed® thermometer on the back wall (hot side) say 105º?

105 should be "spot" temp.

Dragons usual reach there thermal stress limit at about 105-110 and the then move away from the light. so 115 shouldnt be a problem. 130 however seems a little too high. I would try to keep it between 105-115 at the basking.
Your ambient temperature sounds ok for the hot side of the cage.
