Gurudeniya: Attempts of a king cobra to enter into a house at the first mile post along Talatu Oya road in Gurudeniya this week was not only foiled by a faithful dog but also saw to the ruining of the intruder.
As it was narrated, with dusk falling a king cobra had covertly tried to enter the house and the dog which was doing its duty faithfully guarding the house was drawn by the noise made in the grass being thrashed by the movement of the cobra.
The German Shepherd breed dog's barking did not drive the intruder away as it hissed and was moving its own way. This resulted in both engaging in a battle royale and neither was willing to` run away'. The snake used its tricks with threats to bury the poisonous fangs, to avoid being bitten by the dog and the fight went on for sometime.
The owner of the house though tried to separate the two, could do nothing. She called her husband on the mobile but long before the master could arrive, the dog did its duty, biting and killing the reptile. The housewife said that it was the fourth cobra the dog had killed.
