Brumation Help!!!!!!! Please

wsurugby10 Dec 02, 2004 11:54 AM

I think my bearded dragon might be trying to brumate. She keeps burying herself deep in the sand under a rock. She isn't even a year old so I don't know if I should let her bruamte or not. How will I be able to see if she is losing weight or not? There has been no temperature change that would affect this either. Her tank is the same as it always is. What do you guys think I should do? Please help me out I'm a little scared.

Also I forgot to mention is it ok that her substrate is sand. She is burying herself in it and all I can see is her tail. Will she be able to breath in sand? Thanks for you time

Yes, she's old enough to brumate. Just the change in the natural daylight is enough to trigger it. All my adults are sleeping. And yes, she can still be able to breathe in the sand.
Don't be surprised if someone else tells you about the risks of using sand as a substrate. That goes back to the great debate.

Well...
Sand does have risks but they aren't so great after a year since meals are usually salad, which would be on a plate so risk of injestion isn't so great.
