Help! Somethin' Up With My Toad!

Dozer Jul 01, 2003 08:09 PM

Hey all,

I'm just an observer in this forum, but I came back from a trip and I find one of my American Toad subadults acting weird. Firstly, the vent its all puffy and looks like some liquid developed in behind its anus. Secondly, its reall disoreinted. It cant grab food properly and it kinda acts as if its drunk. Lastly, its hind legs just flop behind it. I really dont know whats wrong. The toad is a CH baby from last year and its been eating well and everything prior to the 5 day trip. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks in advance.

Mike

The best thing that you can do right now is to take the toad to a vet that has experience with herps. Have a look at www.arav.org to find one near you. Figuring out what is wrong with an injured or sick amphibian without seeing it can be difficult. Treating an animal for an incorrect diagnosis can be just as harmful or more harmful than not treating it at all. Right now just make sure to keep your toad in a clean cage and in a space where it won't be disturbed often. Good luck!
