Is my Gecko Broken?

Gabriev Dec 02, 2004 02:50 PM

Hi everyone....just writing in to see if anyone can help me with my tokay gecko, Mr. Bitey. Past couple of days he's been not climbing on the cage walls to bask in his lamp like he usually does...he just sits at the bottom of the cage, which I know is just wrong for a tokay. He still eats like a pig, and is lively...I dared to pick him up to see if perhaps he didn't shed some skin and it got stuck on his footpads, but he was fine...he can stick, he just won't bother trying to climb the glass...I did just move him to a thirty gallon aquarium, but one that is very sparcly decorated so far...could he be afraid to climb up without some security from plants and cage decorations?

Thanks. ^^

i have a tokay myself, it might just be adjusting to the new cage. lots of geckos do that, but i was curious about that stuff in its mouth. it looks like it shouldnt be there, but i am no expert. that bluish/white stuff doesnt look good though

Hmmmm...yeah...the funny thing was, he was hanging up high the first couple of days...well, I'm not to worried, becuase his appetite hasn't diminished. ^^ And...mmm...yeah...his mouth...I wonder if he has a respitory infection possibly? I think I may get him looked at.

The bigger his home the better he'll be. If you just put your Tokay in their and theres not much decor on the sides and back I would say if he has hiding areas on the ground thats where he will be. I don't see anything alarming with the pic of your Tokays pic. The inside of their mouth is black just like I see in yours. If you have anything like like cotttege cheese like stuff building up in there then you need a vet. Pics can be decieving though, heres a adult female you can in her mouth to compare

Thanks for the help guys. ^^ As it turns out, it was a lack of cage furnishings. I bought a bunch of nice plastic plants and covered everything, and now he's back in his old spot high above the terrerium wall and eating half a dozen crickets a day.
