I don't mess around with chemicals. Sorry. BUT I do change and clean water bowls often with elbow grease and hot water. Done it for over thirty years now, and no problems! EVER! Not even a single salmonella case (considering the many schoolchildren that have handled my animals in the past). I do keep them very clean and check on them EVERY day, sometimes two or three times a day - especially during the spring.
This was also a good topic ( & cleaning cages) that was discussed in the Indigo forum back in October.

Bowls go in twice a week for adults, three times a week for youngsters. Left in overnight, then removed in the morning. The snakes are forced to drink fresh, potable water then and there is little chance for contamination. That has been my regimen for 10 years.

I use 12 oz deli cups in heavy crocks and replace them every Monday with new ones. If they get soiled sooner they get changed sooner. The cups cost less than my time so I feel its a good way to go. Ron

Hey Keith,

I soak my water bowls (ok, my snakes' water bowls) every time i replace them, with clorox added to the water they soak in. I do this usually about once a week but immediately if soiled, of course. They're then washed in a dishwasher.

Keith,

I keep a basin of Novalsan mixed in the laundry room. If water bowls are messed or dumped they are removed and replaced with clean fresh bowls. The soiled bowls go into the novalsan solution. On Sunday I do a weekly clean of boxes, substrate, and all water bowls. I clean and repack the humidity hides with fresh sphagnum moss about once a quarter.
