Heating strip

justinmatthew Dec 03, 2004 01:17 AM

What is the life expectancy for a flex watt heating strip and where is the best place to order them from? Also, how does the installation work with those? Thank you.

You'd probably be more likely to get an answer in the caging forum.

I don't know what they are rated for but I have some that are over nine years old and still going strong. It really depends on how they are treated. Main thing make sure not to overheat it. Basically leave a gap in between the heat tape and either the cage or the floor. You can get away with direct contact if you have a reliable temperature control device, but for safety sake leave like an 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap. Check out SerpentCity in the classifieds they have very good prices and I'm sure Scott would be happy to answer any additional question you have. As for installation that depends on what type of enclosure you are putting it in, rack, aquarium, custom cage, ect...

Hope this helps a bit,
