That is probably algae, brown algae can be a sign that your tank isn't healthy. How big is the tank? How many turtles?

45 gallons. one turtle. i feed her like 10 pellets two times a day. my mom thinks its because the house is humid. this weekend im going to clean out the whole tank.

Exactly how big is this turtle? for turtles over 2 inches (shell length), you should ONLY be feeding it pellets about once or twice a week, with greens supplemented at all other times. you are probably overfeeding your turtle. At each feeding, you should only feed your turtle enough that could fit into his or her head! if you are overfeeding your turtle, you could eventually cause extensive internal damage which would then probably kill your turtle!

she's around 6-8 inches. she always seems hungry. and how long do you leave the veggies in the tank? because i did that and it made the tank water green. and whats a good website for an RES care sheet?

and the same thing is happening with my other tank. i have a 10 gallon that has around 4 fishes in it. the water is yellow-brown. am i feeding them too much too?

Thanks for the fast replies!

I doubt that overfeeding your turtles is the problem that your tank is brown... i have NO clue what is causing that. i thought maybe it was because your filter isnt strong enough for your tank! but you are supposed to leave them in there until they are eatin, but dont give it a lot... just enough to feed it. the way i cut down on waste in the tank is that i take my turtles out to feed them so that they can make a mess in another much SMALLER and easier to clean tank so that they dont have such a mess in the large tank! and a good website is "Austins turtle page" i think you can look that up on GOOGLE and find it! good luck
