Sanitizing Tiles

chikimonke Dec 03, 2004 12:20 PM

Hey all, it's been quite a long time since I've posted on here. For any of you that may remember me, Jak is doing quite well. For her birthday this year I decided to upgrade her to tiles. I bought them and have them cut to size, but I don't know the best way to initially sanitize them. I know that if I were to bake them in the oven, that would kill most everything that could be on them, but I'm afraid the tiles may crack in the heat. I got the tiles at Home Depot. If you have any suggestions on baking techniques or any other sanitizing methods, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help

yoiu know when i got my tiles from lowes i washed them with soap and water. i have had no problems... but if you want to be a safety freak then soapy water bath, then bleach bath, then soapy water bath, then amonia bath, then soapy water bath

that'll kill just about anything

I bought my tiles from home depot as well. Being a teacher, I am very familiar with germ killing. ( not an expert mind you) I need to do it every day at this time of year. Clorox Cleanup wipes are my best friend!! In class and at home with my geckos. They are easy to use and don't drip. I wipe down my tiles with these first and let tem sit for ten minutes or so and then into the hot soapy water where I scrub them with a brush and then rinse thoroughly. I make sure they are completely dry before returning them to the tank. Hope this helps. I also use the wipes to clean out the tanks and then rinse well!

I did notice that my Home Depot (in So.CA) has the tiles I bought on sale so I was thinking that I might go and get another set sao i don't always have to wait for them to dry! Just a thought!
