I'm trying to hatch eggs at something less than 80 degrees, and the thermal hova bator seems to start at 78 degrees.

I use a normal hovobator to hatch all my rhac eggs (chahoua and sarasinorum, had aurics and cili's in the past) and have kept them as low as 72, most at about 74-75 and had very good luck. I inquired about getting a thermal fan model but was told that the fan tends to dry things out too fast.

Were you able to set the thermostat that low? LLL told me the range was from about 78-100 degrees, and I'd wanted to try hatching my cresteds at between 70 and 75. Do you recall how many days cilis took for you?

I am able to set it that low yes, I have mine running at 74 now using a dig therm. with probe. It takes a little time to get them temp accurate but its doable. Sarasinorum eggs are similar to ciliatus eggs and mine are taking roughly 70 days to hatch. Chahoua on the other hand take upwards of 110-120 days at the same temps hehe.

mine turns the heat on at 70 degrees i believe. the only problem i have with it is it seems to sort of absorb heat. like if i have it within 10 feet of a heat vent, the incubator will absorb the heat coming out. even if the room tempterature isn't that high the incubator will get that high. it won't produce anymore heat though. so just try to keep it out of a drafty area and away from anything that will change temperatures very quickly. am currently incubating several clutches of crested gecko eggs at 74 degrees. i also keep a digital thermometer in it all the time. and like someone else said, it's a little bit of a pain getting the temp set. but after that it's pretty consistant.
