Cabinet grade plywood OK to use?

tim5580 Dec 03, 2004 03:43 PM

Cabinet grade birch plywood OK for a snake cage? Chris said to use AC grade plywood, but it didn't have a letter grade on it. This was the nicest looking plywood I saw too. It is on sale at my local Home Depot. $28.88 for a 4x8 3/4" sheet. Looks like it would stain really nice.

That's actually better than AC plywod and $28.88 is a great price.

I've had good luck with the birch laminated plywood from Home Depot and other home improvement centers.

At $28.88 a sheet, I would build a house with it!!
That is a great price. It usually retails for close to $50 a sheet here in CT. About the same price as oak.
And yes, it takes stain rather nicely.

I think I am going to get some. The only problem is I drive a Hyundai Accent so I dont think it is going to fit in my hatchback.

you're talking about "homer ply" aren't you? It looks a LOT like birch, but it's just a mixture of various woods. It will work nicely, and look pretty good in the end. I spent $35/sheet for 3/4" oak to build my cages out of...but I also had a LOT of oak trim lying around in the top of my g'pas shop. But yeah that homer ply cuts nicely and looks great for the price!

If you turn the corner to the plywood asile, you'll find the birch 3/4" for about $42 i think.

It had a tag on it, it said "Cabinet Grade 3/4" Birch Plywood". It was on clearance or something, it said "While suplies last". I don't know.

I'm guessing this is a BB batch rather than an AB batch, hence the lower price.

Still a VERY nice product. B quality birch is still very nice.

I bought a couple of sheets of this a couple of years ago from Home Depot and was very impressed with it.
