ETBs eating patterns

coolhl7 Dec 03, 2004 07:54 PM

Is it all my imagination or does it seem that even in the first few years of life female ETBs have a much greater desire to feed aggressively than males? Its as though the females are "on a mission" to bulk up to promote fertility....whereas my males have been less aggressive feeders even years before they are sexually mature......any thoughts?

I would have to say that our females all feed more aggresively than males, be they young or older, CB or WC. We have several that are meet you at the door, come out and get it if you aren't fast enough. LOL. We long ago learned to go armed with the rat on long tongs! and to have it ready to go in the door as soon as the latches come up. It's a little scary having a 6 footer come out at you looking for her food. However, I've found younger CB males are nearly as bad about food seeking, neos to 6 years (our oldest CB). It's the WC adult males we've always had problems with, they are really slow about eating and nearly always have to be teased or refuse to eat unless it's live.

thanks for the reply...I certainly agree....I even have one female that cant wait till I open her door...she even comes out as you say...Its alway a race to see if I can get my F/T rat in the cage before she gets to it....its getting her to do her dumps that takes some effort (LOL). norm
