I need some help and tips with my iguana

acroshendo Dec 03, 2004 11:43 PM

Iv'e had my iguana for 4 months. It was a gift from my aunt. He/she is about 5 inches plus the tail. Right now, i have him in a 20 gallon tank. I do plan on getting a bigger tank once i can buy one.I do provide him with UVB and give him greens to eat. The thing is, lately he seems unactive.Sometimes it looks like he sleeps all day.He also takes a while to eat his food.Winter is comming up and im getting a bit worried. Will he be okay? Please help.

First, use a *thermometer* to accurately check the temps in various parts of the tank. Such a small tank is hard to properly heat for iguanas. They need to voluntarily move into 95 F zones and back out to 80 F zones. The cumulative stress of not being able to do that can make an ig sick, which is my second point. He needs a vet visit and fecal exam. Keeping young igs healthy affects their ultimate size and state of long-term health. A herp vet can really help even such a little guy.
