How to BREED ETB'S??????

casxyrican Jul 01, 2003 10:15 PM

I have a six year old female and a three year old male. I need some information on:

What season best to mate?
where to mate? male/female enclosure? other enclosure together?
Take yearlings out right away?
How long to keep together while mating time?
how many would she have? Rough idea?
Is it good to sell yearlings online?
how are they shipped?

I have a really good friend who has a lot of info, what I like to get other views as well. I want to make sure I do it right.

thank you for reading and emailing me back w/ info!

Hey bud,
Below are some answers that are from my experience in emerald breeding:

What season best to mate?

I favor March through May... although they can be bred in any season as long as you can cycle them down to 70/72 degrees. I have bred them in the Fall as well.

where to mate? male/female enclosure? other enclosure together?

Side by side cages adjoined with a partition is good. Or, male introduced to female.

Take yearlings out right away?

Not sure what you mean by this...I assume you mean newborns...Yes, I would separate newborns from the mother immediately.

How long to keep together while mating time?

Separate them as breeding drops off (usually within a week) or separate for feeding,sheds,etc... Reintroduce after a week or so.

how many would she have? Rough idea?

as few as none (bronze Slugs), One,... Litters of six or twelve are common...15 or more would be a large litter!!

Is it good to sell yearlings online?

Sure!! Why not?

how are they shipped?
Delta Dash is safest for emeralds for sure!!
