S1NPLYS1K Dec 04, 2004 11:49 AM

Hey guys...I've been noticing a lot of photo's of carrot-tails where there is a little orange on the tail of the gecko w/ the rest looking rather normal/purpleish...when i first came on this site everybody agreed that my 7 month old is a hypo-golden...im' curious...

is it at all possible that my leo's has some carrot-tail genes? Could she be a hypo-golden carrot-tail?

i'm trying to get all these morph's down...bear with me ;D

It is not a carrot tail..... Might have some of the genetic make up though..... Very nice leo you have there.....

As I understand it, Carrot Tail is produced by line breeding individuals with orange tails together. For example, you find a leo with the most orange on its tail and breed it to another, and then out of those babies you pick the ones witht he most orange and breed them and so on and so forth until you have carrot tails. so basically, the leo you have could start a line for carrot tails if you breed him and then kept selectively breeding the babies

Hypo carrot-tails are a codominant line started by Ray Hine. While other lines produced hypos by selective breeding, they didn't produce carrot-tails. Ray Hine was the one who came up with the name "carrot tail" so the name really only applies to leos from his line.

So what are you supossed to call them if they aren't from his line? Now-a-days people don't really care..if it has orange on the tail they automatically call it carrot tail.

If it isn't from Hine lines you just call it a gecko with orange on it's tail, as that's all it is.

. . . it has that "ghost" look about her - even in the spots.

Nice gecko - I also agree that it looks like an outcross of a hypo ct.
