just a quick poll many keep both locals and morphs?

micahdenton Dec 04, 2004 12:26 PM

I was just woundering how many people are keeping both local and morph boas? I keep both I love my local boas it more fun for my to see the little differnces in them then it is to a new morph. instead of the 2 secounds it takes to go oh my thats pinks it can take hours to ok ok that ones little then that one. lol. don't get my wrong I day dream about produceing a codom stripe hypo and what will happen if a breed it to my tiger would it be striped or patternless. I love morphs and see what can bee done with their genetics.

her in Colrado the reptile show is small only 500 people over the two day event. most people that come are just looking around trying to find something different to do with the kids, and never buy a thing. most of the sales happen between the people on the other side of the table. (we all do it that way I know this is nothing new) but when I take my locals to a show I get a lot of why your boa so much over there he only wants 60 bucks and his is bright red yours is ugly why there isn't even any red on your snake. and as I claim try to explain that it's because it a Longicauda or an anery morph etc.. inside I'm srceam you tit learn about what you are looking at before you come to a show. at the last show a women became upsite with the guy next to my when he refuse her offer of 85 doller for a hypo carrot tail leo (450 plus gecko it was sweat) and her response was but thats twice what he ask over there for a geacko. any body else have this kind of problem, so to rant

I really wanted to go to that show, because not many shows come our way here in Colorado...Hmmmm too cold?

Anyway, I love them all. The normals and morphs, but it is nice as you stated when they change color. I've got a new Salmon right now who's really getting his colors in...just takes time. My Suri too, has got alot of color (VERY pink - compared to all I've seen), he's not a morph. They are all gorgous in my opinion, even the normals! =)

And all those shows are open to the public, so you've got to expect a couple uneducated people to waltz in and question things we do, and not understand the prices. Life goes on as frustrating as it is...I guess its a good thing those ignorant ones didn't purchase what you had to offer though, right? Good luck next time!

At the moment all I have are morphs or normals of unknown origins. Haven't had a chance to save up for some really nice local boas.

Is it just me or do local boas hold their prices better? I know the morphs are worth more when they are "new", but local boas just seem to stay steady. What do you think?

Travis,
Ya know...I've never thought about it that way, but your absolutly right. They hold there value and wont go down like the morphs out there do every year, i.e. albinos. Either way I love them all equally..althought certain morphs will always have there place in my heart.

another goodthing about morphs is that they are easyer to spot when they get out. I was just clean cages when i noticed that the "feet" of one of my rubbermaids in the bady rack had popped insideout leaveing a 1/2 inch gap instead of a 1/8 inch gap and that one of my anery bcL's was gone. looked high looked low then I noticed his bright whute tail sticking out from between a stack of books on the shelf on the otherside of room. if it had been a normal I wouldn't have seen him. lol

I can't choose between them, I would have to say that I like my locality collection better, but it is close. I am very excited about the potential of my albino breeding project, but at the same time the project that I would most like to see is my pair of verified Hogs producing babies. I believe the whole argument between Locality and morphs is bogus, keep what you like. The only problem I have had with the morph community was the production of the hypo/Hog cross. I believe nicer hypos have been produced from the line of hypos that we have already, why bring an extinct locality into it?

Of course it's my opinion, I said it, didn't I?

Well I dont have any exact locality info on this guy but he was sold to me as a suri. Morphs have there place in this hobby infact I think morphs introduce people to this hobby because they are different and attractive. Seeing the different morphs on the the net was very interesting to me when I first got into boas but then I see all these BCC's and I became a nut! When I tell other people how much I have paid for some of my boas they look at me like im crazy and they are right! I love boas
