Wide banded Eastern . . . OR goini/appalachicola???

BlueKing Dec 04, 2004 02:14 PM

What do you all think? Bought this at the carolina reptile show in Sept. She was labeled "goini". I was told this one was the only white colored one out of the clutch. The rest were all orange. There still is NO white traces in the dark interspaces, yet. She reminds me of Big John in pattern & markings.

I think you will have to see how this one looks after a year. It looks sorta like a blotched King or maybe a Blotched X Eastern ? Who knows. Also There have been some wide banded Kings out of S Carolina. Did the guy you got it from have any more info ? Was he the breeder ? Whats the guys name you got it from ? Nice looking snake though !

They do look similar! Especially the horseshoe marking on the back of the neck is the same as on my snake! Maybe it's a cross between a goini and a mosaic - Who knows, LOL!. I am sorry, but the guy I got it from was a small time breeder and I forgot/misplaced his name. I didn't think much of it (the snake), when I first purchasd it. As a matter of fact, it seemed like no one wanted it the day I bought it (after everyone passed it over), so I got it for only 35 bucks! I thought it was cheap enough to give it a go and see what she turns into in a year or so. . . And I think she'll grow quickly cause she's a great eater!
By the way, nice mosaic king, Keith! It looks like a cross between a goini and eastern in a way.

Thanks JETZEN! The white is actually a little brighter than the picture shows. I took the pic with no flash. But in real life the white is almost as bright as on my cal king!

georgeous!my guess would be thats the result of a apalachicola, goini, meansi, blotched, whatever bred to an eastern, but irregardless of its origin that is a beautiful getula, it should be very interesting watching that snake grow and the changes that may occur ,,,, congrats,,,,,,,thomas

If it's a 2004 hatch, it's not going to show any interband lightening until later if it's an Apalachicola King.

Does the head on this snake remind anybody of anything? I won't say anything now, but if what I'm thinking is true, this would also explain the white coloration.

Kind of looks like a California King...

Looks very much like Blotched X California crosses that I have seen for sale before.

Hmmm? That may be possible - Since I've never seen one of those yet!
But then again I also think that Big John probably looked like that when he was younger. Here's a pic of Big John in the front yard. His bands have darkened somewhat due to age (he's currently 76" but his band count (20), is almost the same as the little female's (19).

and there are too many white scales with darkend areas in them. . . I havn't seen a cal king with a low band count like that - only 19 crossbands from neck to base of tail. . . Also I forgot to mention the belly has a very pretty orange wash to it.

Pierson, I looked at it and thought Cal king. It reminds me so much of that cross I saw earlier. I will go with what the others say and just say it's pretty. It'll be a kick to see how it looks as an adult.

Zee, I was in no way saying I was sure your snake was a cross, just that it's head reminded me of a Cal king at first, and has the "look" of the crosses I had seen that's all. Of course, I have NO way of knowing it's lineage. Still, you'll have a unique snake in him/her.

I know that it didn't quite look like other baby goini's, but I thought I'd give him a try, since I do like his white bands and orange belly - it was unique. If his looks don't change much when he gets older, then I might have me a "muttly" on my hands, LOL!
