beardie diet problem???help???????????

angusowner Dec 04, 2004 05:22 PM

My girlfriends beardie is very spoiled, he denies crickets/mealworms if its not held in front of its face(most of the time). he eats crickets/mealworms like a champ. but he wont eat lettuce or any veggies but he does like to trapse through his dish. he also wont drink standing water, you have to spray it on his face and he waits for the water to roll into his mouth. how can we make lettuce and water more attractive. oh hes a older juvenile and was a very slow grower compared to most his brothers and sisters. should we slowly stop babying him eventhough we have no problem with it ... its kinda cute, thanks for any help

Mine was reluctant to eat his greens. I found out that they are attracted to red, you might want to try using some chopped red bell pepper or strawberries (not a whole lot though) mixed in w. his greens.

Try dropping newly molted superworms into his salad. Also use calcium rich greens like collards, dandelions and mustard greens instead of just iceberg lettace. In fact don't use iceberg lettace at all, it really has no value food wise.

Since your dragon likes to be hand fed, you can always offer him greens with your fingers. When my dragon was being particularly stubburn with greens, I just wrapped a small piece of collard green around a cricket or superworm and gave him it that way. Then again she always gave me dirty looks for being so sneaky but at least it did get her to eat greens.
