Power out!

lizgirl17 Dec 04, 2004 06:28 PM

Hey all! My neighborhood is scheduled for a power outage later this week. It's going to be for a bout eight hours in the middle of the night so the city can do some repair work or something. I need to get some heat packs real quick! Anybody know where I can get some reliable heat packs fast? TIA

Depending on the area of the country you're in, you can get some at any hunting/outdoor shop. Otherwise try calling walmart/target/ect and see if your store has them. In wisconsin it's never a problem to find because all the hunters use them as hand warmers and for other heating stuff when they are out in the freezing cold.

try to get a re-usable one too... if you have a gas stove usually you cna just light your stove with a match, boil some water and reheat the pack by submerssing it

tell us where you ended up getting the heatpack.

Where do you live and what is the temperature right now? If it's not freezing out, I would just not bother, because usually a house won't cool down too much in just 8 hours, so the geckos will just get a little cool and go to sleep. A couple years ago all I had was my bearded dragon, and we had an ice storm that left us without power for 2-3 days, and very very limited transportation. I just put my beardie in his rubbermaid container that I use when he has to be taken somewhere, and put it near the fire. It got very cold by the last day. even with the fire going, it was probably down in the 50's, but he made a good recovery. I would never let that happen again though.

If it does look like it's going to be really cold outside, I would stock up on heatpads though. There's lots of places they have them. You just have to look around.
